After escaping to America from Armenia during the Armenian Genocide, Harry Apelian

wanted to create a future for his family. In 1946, Harry bought a lot at 2900 Central Street in

Evanston, Illinois. After several months, he built his own rug cleaning business out of a one car

garage! Once his two sons, Jack and George returned from World War II, they joined the family

business and quickly learned they were outgrowing their space and knew they could add to their

objective. In 1965, Apelian Rug Co. expanded to create a showroom in the front to sell rugs

with the back dedicated to cleaning. Soon after, George Sr.’s two sons, George Jr. and Garry

joined the family business as third generation. For the past 75+ years, Apelian Rug has brought

their heart and soul into every home they have stepped into. With a showroom full of

Handmade and Machine-Made Oriental Rugs from India and Pakistan along with wood and

vinyl tiling and a full range of carpet by Masland, Couristan, Karastan and Dream Weavers and

thousands of remnants, Apelian Rug will find you exactly what you want and need. Our team
